Medication is a nursing service. Depending on the extent of the injury, which may be the result of a traumatic event or surgery, the health care provider may proceed with a simple dressing or a complex dressing.

To carry out a proper dressing so that the wound can heal as quickly as possible are used some drugs (disinfectants and healers), of the ointments, of the specific medicines according to the injury and the protective materials (gauze, plasters, etc.) affixed to the wound to prevent the wound from being prone to infection.

The purpose of complex (or advanced) dressing is to create an environment on the wound that respects characteristics of biocompatibility, that is, a situation in which the materials used(drugs, specific medicines and protective materials) in contact with the wound (wound) have a reaction that promotes wound healing. The materials used are state-of-the-art materials designed specifically for the type of skin lesion to be treated.

Complex dressing is used for pressure injuries/ulcers (third and fourth degree), decubitus injuries, major surgical wounds, and burns (third and fourth degree) .
