Earwax plug removal is an outpatient service performed by the Otolaryngologist whereby the Otolaryngologist removes an obstruction created in the external ear canal due to an accumulation of earwax.
The main symptoms that allow the patient to refer to the Otolaryngologist for earwax plug removal are: earache, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), feeling of a full ear, feeling of loss of balance and/or dizziness, booming of one’s voice (autophony), reduced hearing ability (hearing loss).
Removal of earwax plugs should be done in the immediate onset of symptoms because if neglected it could lead to gradual hearing loss.
