A histological examination (or histopathologic examination) is a laboratory test that involves analysis in the skin lesion or neoformation removed during surgery.
Using advanced machinery, the analytical laboratory analyzes the sample received and provides the Specialist who performed the surgery with a report regarding the nature of the sample removed. A histological examination, the reporting time for which varies from 10 to 15 days, is necessary to define a possible continuation of treatment, the initiation of targeted drug therapy, or to simply ascertain that the excised specimen was not malignant in nature.
Performing a histological examination tends to always be recommended by the specialist performing the surgery.
